Each painting involves months of painstaking labour. No wonder Gunnel Wåhlstrand develops a close relationship with each of them. This weekend she opens a new exhibition at Waldemarsudde.
If Gunnel Wåhlstrand's upcoming solo exhibition were to have a soundtrack, it would probably be ‘Landscapes’. The Danish composer Ole Buck's four pieces, one for each season, were repeatedly listened to while working on her latest works.
On the other hand, the selection of works in the exhibition spans a period of over twenty years - which means a huge collection of songs. At least if you are like Gunnel Wåhlstrand, an artist who always paints to music. Often the same album over and over again over a long period. Often classical, never vocal.
- I feel like I'm in a dialogue with the music. That when I get going in the studio every morning, I sort of bounce off the music. It gives me momentum.
