Set in the Paper Tube Studio of Centre Pompidou-Metz, the architectural studio in which Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines created the building for the Centre Pompidou-Metz, Xavier Veilhan's project Carton Plein is currently on view. Just as in his well-renowned project Studio Venezia during the 57th Venice Biennale, the collaborative spirit of the studio is once again a source of inspiration for Veilhan.
For the occasion, the artist is inviting visitors to experience the creation of his most recent film, Film Catastrophe. Like an ode to the ephemeral, everyday objects mixed with found objects from his studio are piled up so that they become unstable, their collapse being immortalised in short filmed sequences. Visitors will be able to create their own sculptures, in a spontaneous and provisional way, and will film their collapse in the Paper Tube Studio, which will take the form of a film studio.
